here's my story and I'm sticking to it :)
transported old 9N 200 miles with gas in tank.
she cranked before the move and now will not start unless i use starting fluid sprayed @ intake.
Wondering to drain gas tank or clean carb or both.
runs great once started with ether.
thanks for any an all comments.....

ran good before.. now won't start without start fluid.... runs good once started. hmm...

have you ran any of the gas from the bowl of the carb into a jar for a looksee.. might have some excess water in it.

thanks soundguy for your reply
if it runs good after starting with fluid, could it still be water/slug in gas ?

thanks CJ in Michigan
gas is part old and part new ( mostly old )
spark is good at plugs...jumps 1/4 inch
will have to study up on checking compression :)

or just bad stsle gas. easiest thing to do is drain gas and refill with a couple gallons new and check. if it works.. feed in the old gas at a mixed down rate till it is used up.

Turn off the fuel valve from the tank. Open up drain in bottom of carb and let her drain dry. Remove the fitting right at the carb and put some new fresh fuel in the carb with a syringe or piece of tubing and small funnel. 3-4 ounces should be plenty for a test. This would eliminate the possiblity of the problem being old fuel in tank.

had a Allis B that would do that every time I trailered it fine rust in gas tank would get stured up and git in the carb. Clean carb and check the tank and sed. bowl.

Probably stale gas.Gas that has set for 6 months will not start small engines.I used some ether to start my tractor this spring.Had a stuck inlet valve.Engine ran lousy on ether, made some clanking noise.A squirt of fresh gasoline ran much smoother.I wont use ether again. It must ignite before the piston reaches TDC.Fill a pump oiler with fresh gas and squirt some into the carberator.
