Original 8N

Here are a few pictures of a 1947 8N that I just bought. It has 3 of the original tires and original paint. The tractor shows extremely little wear. If anyone ever sees one of those original Firestone rear tires, keep me in mind. The style that Dennis Carpenter sells are the early version of the connected tread tires that are straight bars where mine are more curved.

I am going to keep the tractor in its original condition and it will never be restored. It also has a hand brake and a foot throttle.

I bought my 8n about 15 years ago. The seller had replaced one tire and rim with a junk yard one because it had rusted out. It did not match and drove me crazy. I got over it.

Im guessing it was replaced when the rear tire was replaced. I have one that is like new that I will put on when I find a tire.

I just swapped the carb off of another tractor and it fired right up. I had to split it and replace the clutch. Im sure it had sat for many years because it was really stuck to the flywheel.

Is it possible for a tire to had lasted 65 years? How bad is it cracking? From the old tires I've seen it seems it would spent most on its life in doors in a temperature controlled room to still have usable tires that old. Good find none the less.

Unbelievable find------make sure you post a pic after you "clean it up"........I wouldn"t paint this one either.....the sheet metal is really great...

You probably looked to see if the radiator leads a bit, just wondered about what appears to be some corrosion behind the grille....(I do like the turqoise "natural" look though.

Very nice find, I would look for an original tire/original rim combo to install and leave it alone other than a gentle cleaning.

Thanks. I have several sets of hat rims that will match the tractor perfectly. I will put one on if/when I find an original tire to match. If I cant, I will buy one from Miller Tire.

Rubber was made much better back then. The tire has very little cracking. I have a 52 that also has the original tires and they dont show much cracking either.

What's that shaft seen right behind the air cleaner? Is that some type of parking brake? I don't think I've seen that before.

It is a parking brake. Im not sure who made it, but it works great.
