Original front weight box # ??

Good evening all,

As I power washed the front weight box I found for my 901, I noticed some hand stamped numbers (very light) on the front, bottom half. These appear to be identical or a very similar font to what is typically seen for the model and serial #s on the tranny. These are the numbers I found.

230 861 L 1

I do not know for certain that this was produced by Ford, but the pattern is perfect for the front pedestal of my 971 and it is nearly identical to front boxes I've seen on the internet that were apparent originals. I was curious about the samped numbers and have not seen them discussed before. Any comments or thoughts??

Interesting.
Never thought about serializing weights but then again, most other 'implements' of that era were serialized - plows, discs, mowers, planters, etc.

I guess there are so few of those weight boxes left that no one has been able to become an expert on the trivia related to them. I hereby appoint you to become the "Weight Box Authority".
