oscillating front end

F-I-T is correct with the oscillation. F-I-T wanted the whole story, so here it is. To start I just drained the fluid and replaced with 4 quarts of JD fluid, and still oscillates. (still have some of the wrong stuff in the system).
Father in Law (FIL), Doesn't recall if he replaced any parts or even worked on the PS.

A few years ago FIL wanted a project, (he has redone a few old JD's). He found a 730D, standard. It had sat for a few years and needed a new Trans case. We bought the 730 + parts tractor. He tore major stuff apart and replace. I am 1,000 miles away, so was not there very often during restore.
Were do I go from here??? Wheels still Osco, fluid is still foaming. FIL is here for another week and wants to tear it all apart.

Don't overlook front spindle bushings and toe in. Both make a tremendous difference. Toe in should be about 1/2 inch wider at the back of the front tire than at the front of the front tire. Distance off the ground is best at the axle height. The more slop in your steering system, the bigger this number has to be. BTDT

I doubt that it is the fluid, but eventually you will want to get it all changed, but since you or he will likely be going deeper into it, change it all when you get a chance as you drain it during teardown.

The following is not meant to an insult or a joke, but if he ever worked on the power steering pedestal, actuator valve, worm assembly, or the pump, he would remember.

Foaming is generally caused by bad seals in the fanshaft driven pump. The old single chvron seal is no longer available, so you use two seals face to face, and on one end you use a washer between as a spacer. This is repeated several times on the tractor, one other place being the Powr-Trol hydraulic pump. Just did one this week. I have been told that you can get oil foaming from worn pedestal vane seals, but while I had and replaced worn vane seals before, I never had oil foaming come from that. If it were me, I'd probably pull the pump, get the four seals and the washer-spacer, and maybe spring for the bushings since it might be needing those as well. New bushings help a little bit in keeping excess oil from even getting to the seals on a steady basis. I like to replace them while I'm in there because I don't want me or my grandsons to have to do it again for at least 50 more years. It would not hurt to go through the tests spelled out in the official JD power steering manual, or the steps detailed in the I&T manual, but that said, I'd start with the pump.
