OT Broken Drawbar

I have an Ertl 1/8 Scale Tractor that I got with a broken drawbar. It seems to be pot metal. I tried to solder but as soon as I got any heat into it it stared to melt. Ideas?

pot metal is unweldable. i would drill a couple
holes and insert high tensile wire. epoxy glue. you
can fill it sand and paint

depending on what it is.. it should be solderable.. even if cast aluminum.. all really depends on what it is.

I think I'd glue it with a zip tie section UNDER it and then sand and repaint the top side.

This might be the best argument I've seen for using JB Weld on a tractor!
Form it solid, sand and re-drill the holes as needed.

after seeing pic. ii would use a two part polymer
repair product. you can get it at plumbing
suppliers and auto parts stores..i used to sell
it..i call it magic metal. good stuff

I restore toy tractors. I would find some brass or steel and make a new drawbar. paint it Ford red.

Your statement is not true, Aladin 3 in 1 works great on zinc based material.

I tried soldering but soon as I got some heat into it it started to melt. I had some of loctites version of JB weld and it didn't stick to the metal at all. So I guess I'll try real JB weld.

If anybody's interested I have it for sale less the draw bar.

dont know if you ever successfully repaired any pot metal.melting point of this product is 700*. most pot metal will melt at 400*. this and no one knows what is in the alloy. our research found all kinds of stuff including dirt and rock. hard to weld
