OT Coleman Generator

I bought a Coleman Generator 4 years ago and have had to use it once during Hurricane Ike.

When this generator was new, it would only run with the choke half positioned. Now the choke has to be in the full on position to run.

I drain the gas each November and put in new gas with stabilizer before hurricane season in June.

Is there any way to increase the nozzle size in the carburetor to get this thing to run?

It is a Coleman 5kw with a B&S 1450 Series engine. (305cc)

Thanks,

If it ran like crap new something was wrong from the get go..

The 10% ethanol gas will fubar almost anything but a N given time, even an N given enough time to suck water from the air, that's why I'm shopping Diesel generators.

I'm trying to find a MEP 002, got a lead? Let me know.

thay put gas in it when thay test it at the factory. then it sits for a few months and the fuel go.s bad. if you clean the carb it will be ok and run as it should. the mane jet is on the bottom of the carb it sits at a angle. remove it and then put a small skrew driver in the place where the jet came from and remover the jet orfice and clean that. that will let it run with out choking it. good luck. Actually they only put a minute spray in the carb intake, turn it over till it fires once, then ship it. no gas enters the tank or fuel system. Briggs can turn out 5000 motors per assembly line per shift, no time to fill tanks and empty again.
I would think that if it ran only half choke when new then like another said you had a problem from the get go. Jets are set so lean now days it doesnt take much to restict them. You can either take it apart and clean, change gaskets/diaphrams assembly and see what happens.
If still runs lean then best to just put on a new carb. And yes I have filed out jets with welding torch tip files but I would never admit it.

Try looking for a vacuum leak. Loose carb? Normally you choke it to get more fuel in for starting. If the there is air entering your fuel system past the carb you need the choke to enrichen the mixture.
