Anyone an expert with concrete garage floor. ?
I have a floor that is one & a half years old. It is chipping in one area. I do not pound the on floor !

Usually when it chips like that is because there is water in the cement when there is a freeze. It's difficult to patch and have it last. The best way is to clean the spots and put some concrete anchor epoxy in the hole and then sprinkle some mortar mix on it before it dries. It will otherwise leave a gray shinny spot. The mortar mix makes it look like concrete. If it gets messy you can wipe the surrounding floor with acetone to clean it up.

Aggregate close to the surface can expand and contract with changes in humidity. or if it is high iron rock it can expand with rust. It takes very little unstoppable expansion to pop out a chip. I would use a concrete drill to eliminate the stone (I think I see) in the bottoms and use Quikreet grout or the product shown in the add link. It is sold many places. Jim
Patch.

Adding too much water when the floor was put down greatly decreases the integrity of the concrete.

Some places use fly ash as a filler.
That could cause the problems too.

I use cure and seal on my next floors.
It helps control the curing time

I stayed off the floor for almost a month.

Some say it could take a month to cure enough.

A buddy of mine lost his shop to fire.Ne rebuilt on top of the old floor,it had some bad spots from the fire. He used an epoxy to patch the floor,it held up good.

That looks like pop out from reactive aggregate. Flyash or slag is used as a cement replacement to neutralize the reaction. Nothing you can do now except patch the surface. The suggestion you remove the aggregate showing below the surface will give your epoxy more surface to adhere to as well as remove some of the offending aggregate.

28 days is the standard when curing drops off considerably and thats when the concrete test cylinders are broken to determine the strength
