my 83 chevy k10 is having a few problems. first is that it"s short on power and i pulled out all the plugs and 7 seem fine and one keeps turning black and getting buildup on it. i have since replaced the plugs, wires, and rotor and it still runs the same. also the 700r4 tranny seems to be acting up. when you accelerate hard, it will get up to speed kinda sluggish then before it shifts into third it"ll rev way up and then shift. anyone got any ideas?

Which plug keeps turning black? Is it one of the rear ones? I once bought a Chevy Caprice that kept fouling the #8 plug, rear on the right bank. I pulled the valve covers and found the oil drain-down hole on the back of the right head was plugged with goo. Some old geezer had just putted around town with it. Anyway, oil was piling up around the intake guide and fouling plugs as fast as I could clean/replace them.

Opening the drain-down hole obviously cured the problem. If I were you, I'd get the engine squared away and then see what the trans does. If an engine isn't running right, sometimes the trans will do strange things, depending on what the problem is with the engine.

Check to see how your rad level is. If your tranny is an automatic, your oilo cooler tank is incorperated onto your radiator. If it is always low, antifreeze is leaking into your tranny. Had that problem. Cost me $2800.00 to fix for my GMC Seirra 4X4. Tranny was shot, and had to replace. Also if your coolent level is ok, when was the last time the oil and filter was changed in your tranny?

If you are running only 7 cylinders, trans will act funny. Take a new plug and hook it up and lay it on block somewhere and see if it fires. If it does maybe you got valve problem or wore out cam lobe. If it doesn't spark then recheck wire, cap, etc. Tell us what happens. That is the best part.
