OT: crows/ birds getting corn

I planted silver queen corn in the garden and the crows got most of it already. I put rubber snakes out but they did not scare the crows. has anybody got a solution for keeping the birds out of the corn? between the birds and raccoons I have to fight to get any corn at all. I know there some stuff to put on the seed that works but I don't think it is approved for NC. Thanks for all suggestions.

I use to use a creasote product called Crow Off.
I have used kerosene on the seeds just before planting and it works pretty well If you have a large farmer in your area, see what they use on large fields. Might give you a little.

I had a old man tell me to put string around it & crows will not cross it. I tried it & it works.

You shoot one or two of those crows and they will not be back for years. They are very smart and won't be fooled twice.

Shooting is what my grandfather did, then hung the remains on a pole where the birds were feeding.

We have a can of a product called crow go. It has coal tar in it. I just use a couple of drops and mix it all over my sweet corn seed. I have had this can 25 years. Shooting a couple does help though.

Sprinkle a little terpentine on the seeds before you plant them. It has worked for me in eastern NC. I learned this from a local faarmer who plants 100's of acres.

Drive some t posts in at the ends of the rows. String some 10 lb test mono fishing line between them Tie on a few cd disks.
Live traps and a two wire electric for coons.
I also stake out the setter from sunset to 11 pm by the SC. At firdt bark I am there with the 3 inch Benelli.

After the elections I gather up all the nnalert vote for me signs I can get my hands on,,, put them in the field and a crow will not go near'em,,, That's the truth not a joke,,, if you use a nnalert sign they will come and never leave (that's a joke it does not make a difference)...

I am not sure why the signs work other than to confuse the crows,,, maybe its the colors are the pattern but in my small corn field it works...

Works for me ,,,, I spec the signs break up are cancel out something that looks new and arouse their curiosity so they do not investigate... I shoot all I can,,, hang'n them up did not help,,, I tried snakes did not help,,, my neighbor even said it sounds like a war zone around here when I plant,,, have not needed the shot gun for 2 years...

I put a sheet of newspaper down by the row spaced a couple of yards apart. Weight the paper down with a rock or clod of dirt in the middle of the paper to hold it down. The loose sides of the paper flap in the breeze and scare the crows.

Also do the electric frnce routine for coons and the rats with antlers. I put 2 strands close to the ground for coons.

Used to use a product called Crow Chex for our field corn, but the EPA (or some agency) banned it. Have used turpentine with good results.

Had a farmer tell me a story that happened to him a long time ago....

He said he had a problem with crows and soaked some seed in Warbex for 24 hours. Scattered the seed on top of the ground where he planted corn. He got up the next morning and there were dead crows all over his field. Then, when he got up the second morning, there were dead 'possums all over his field! Seems the 'possums came in to eat the dead crows and Warbex in the crows system killed the 'possums too.

I don't know if this is true or not.

I tried soaking in turpentine last spring. Crows ate it all. Bought some hot pepper wax cocentrate, soaked the seeds and let it dry. They tried to eat one seed, but did not bother the sweet corn any more. Jack
