On certain channels will be watching and screen will go black.....push guide and cancel and it comes back on--sometimes for just very few minutes....Contacted dish and they sent new "Box"-hooked it up and same thing..since don"t do it on all channels it don"t sound like a TV problem..any thoughts? Thanks

Are all LNBs the same? I have a complete dish with LNBs---I don't want to mess up more than I fix....Thanks

(quoted from post at 18:52:38 01/31/14) Change the LNB, I had the same problem last year and that was the cure.

OK, so I'm a dummy...what's an LNB?

People just can't talk anymore without using initials for everything.

ahhh.. brings back memories.

old c band dishes and LNA's then KU dishes. and.. paraclipse was my favorite....

Low Noise Block amplifier It is on the focal point of the dish. Its
purpose is to lower the incoming frequency and amplifies the
signal.

All I know is its the thingies that stick out and
look back at the dish and somehow has to do with
receiving the satellite signals..

The biggest problem is television itself.

Thank You.

I've had Direct TV for what must be 7 or 8 years now and have never had a problem.

almost.. but I give you points for being close. you are mixing up the old and the new.

LNA is low noise amplifier

LNB is low noise block downconverter

:)

unless you have grey hair.. the initials were probably in use before you were around. :)

at least the LNA anyway...

Me too but my Dad has problems off and on with Dish
including remotes go crazy and have to type in the
Declaration of Independence backwards to get it
reset etc....This is the first time this screen
blacking out thing has ever happened but has now
been happening for several weeks..

Thanks to all who replied so promptly..Guess I will try the LNBs I have-I understand some Direct TV lnbs might work with a dish setup..might be worth a try..Deer season ended today so TV is my Dad's main pasttime..gotta get it working right whatever it takes..Dish will prob.charge an arm and a leg to come fix it But if that's what it takes so be it..Thanks Again....

Tom go into the menu, and see what your signal strength is. If the dish is off peak, certain transponders will have less signal, and not lock on certain channels
Also, is it a dish 300 or 500 or you may have the works and it will be 1000

The signal strength is under point dish
The LNB or Lnb's still might be the culprit

If you have a dishpro lnb will only work with newer receivers
If You have a legacy LNB, will work with all receivers
this is on a dish 500 setup

Joe, Thanks - I plan to go to his house tomorrow
and will do the best i can to check some of this
stuff --Dish remotes screw up so easy I am almost
scared to touch it..Thanks again..

I got rid of dish due to the fact they would agree to one thing then do another and I am with Direct TV now. Wish a person could get real TV like it was year ago but not ant more

They all snag you then steadily go up on your monthly rate then u are lucky to find anything worth watching.

think you can forget that Direct/Dish LNB compatibility.

Yep but if you live in a place like I do it is either that or pretty much nothing due to this new improved digital signal. Where I live if I did not have a dish of some sort I could not get much if any thing

Since DISH replaced the receiver at no charge I'm guessing you are covered by the service plan. Rather than throwing unknown and most likely incompatible Direct TV parts at it call Dish and ask them to schedule a service call. I have had service several times at no charge. I'd also recommend you find a local Dish contractor with a good reputation and make him your personal service man. DISH will send you the next guy on their list and there can be a world of difference in the qualifications of who shows up. The one and only time I let them chose the contractor (free dish and receiver upgrade) the moron decided he knew better then me what I needed/wanted and rewired my feed, swapped out one of my Solo HD receivers for a Duo with diplexer, and left with the 4 way DISH multi-switch I personally purchased and paid my guy to install. I didn't discover the changes until after they were gone and boy was I pi$$ed.

All you have to do is put up an antenna - your local stations are still on the air.

I watch almost Zero/none TV--if it was just me
that's exactly what I'd do but the wife has to see
Days of our lives and Murder Mysteries and General
Hospital so to get that the TV satellite crooks
charge $64 per month..then when it's time for her
to watch the Super Bowl we most likely don't get
that channel..

Tom. I can't comment on your specific problem, but I would call Dish again. Tell them the new box didn't fix the problem. I've had Dish for 12 years or so and the few times I have had a problem they have been very responsive - even sent out techs to fix the problem. Good luck.

As with most "services" vendors call and ask to cancel service. When they ask why explane you cannot get it to work. They will find a coupon, discount, promotion ect to get you going.
