Afew days ago we drove back to my home town for dr. appoint. and first 15 miles were allranch land,really lush with all the rain.Then began to see beautiful fields of cotton and milo .Also quite a bit of crp grass ,tall and pretty.Later on came to irrigated cotton,milo ,plus sorgum sudan cross for seed companys,and lots of corn,some already harvested for insilage and corn waiting to be cut for grain market.Lost some crops to hail and high winds. But all in all lots of beautiful grass and crops.

Sounds like fun. The land here is as flat as it is mean, with literally hundreds of little suburban houses out in the country. "Farmhouses" (I am not a farmer, but atleast I do raise chickens and grow a large amount of vegtables, and have a real problem with those who have NO experience and barely know what a tractor looks like who just live out here on an acre or so and call themselves farmers just because they live out here)sorry for that. There are a few old farms and then just thousands of acres of corn and beans. The occasional horse or two or hen house with half a dozen birds. Pretty plain out here. What you discribed sounds pretty beautiful.

I have always found it interesting what people consider 'farming'. I live (and grew up) in orchard country and therefore I think if farming as growing fruit. I went to college in dairy country, where I was promptly informed that unless it involved animals it wasn't really farming. In my mind if someone grows something out of the ground, with the intent to sell, that would make them a farmer.

I have always been fascinated by the idea of wide open fields, however home for me is row after row of apple trees...
