OT: Feed Bin Rust Repair

I've got a feed bin that has some pin holes in the bottom cone down by the boot. My first thought is to pop rivet another piece of metal on the outside to keep
feed in and holes from getting larger.

However, is there any type of coating that I could spread on the inside to seal up the small holes? I thought about something like flat roof fiber paint, but I
don't want to use something that's going to get worn off by the feed and get someone in the herd sick. Thanks.

I have a friend that had what sounds like the same situation. He patched around on it and thought everything was fine. One day the feed delivery driver was just topping the bin off and the whole cone fell off.

Kerwin, I cleaned ours up real good and used body putty (like patching a truck panel) and painted over it after it cured good. Seemed to work good for us, didn't notice any "ill" effects. Lasted several years too.

My neighbor's bin had pin holes and the grain would stick to the sides. They were always beating on it with a big hammer to make the grain flow. They were very good at finding the hardest way to do everything. You need to get a good look at the inside before you decide what to do.

I cleaned the inside of mine out really good and put a piece of sheet metal to cover it. I caulked between the pieces to keep any moisture from getting between them. I used sheet metal screws from the outside to fasten them and sprayed the inside with flex seal to stop any moisture from coming through any pin holes I couldn't find.
