Been shelling these by the heater in my shop in the evenings. They are Colossus Purple Hull peas developed by a Clemson Hort professor in the mid 50's. He is still alive and in his mid 90's.
Have done about 11 pounds so far and have a couple more pounds to go. I planted these in July where I had just dug potatoes and picked them after they had dried on the vines in early November. Good protein and good eating when cooked with some fatback in the crock pot.
