OT Garden report

I picked green beans yesterday and the sweet peppers are doing just fine. I did plant the fall garden a week or so ago and most of it is coming up real nice, but most years we do not get a frost till middle to late Oct.

Fire.........dang, I sure do miss them fresh papaya fruit growing in my front yard but don't miss them Minna birds clompin' across the roof of my trailer house in Naalehu........Dell

South central PA, tomatoes vines are dieing but still lots of green tomatoes remaining. I hope to pick the last of the lima beans today if the ground is dry enough. Fall peas, spinach and greens all look like they were washed out with the several weeks of rain that hit this area. I did not put up my electric fence this year and the deer got the corn. Everything else either dried up in the weeks with no rain or drowned in the flood. This was not a good garden year.

Was that an early frost for you?

No frost expected around here for at least another month.

The really hot weather here in August did in the late tomatoes & slowed down most everything else, so we're just about done w/ the farmers market for the year. We'll be selling at the Thanksgiving Market.

I'm waiting for 85* days to dig the sweet potatoes; I cure them under roofing paper on drying racks, so I need the hot days. Collards & other greens look good. I put in just enough cabbage & broccoli for the two of us, so my gardening is just about done for the year.

That's the wife on "her" tractor bush hogging the buckwheat before I plow it & plant the rye.
