OT- Head and Shoulders

I was talking to a mechanic today at church and our discussion wandered into motor oils. He remarked to me that "Head and Shoulders" could be used as a motor oil because it passes every test that conventional motor oils go through. I am dubious, but he is a shop foreman at a local JD dealership and I am just a shade tree mechanic. Any truth to his claim?

(Though I must admit that the multitude of things ATF can do makes wonder a bit.)

Don't worry, I am not going to dump my Rotella T 15-40 for shampoo.

Really - I wonder who actually performed those tests to make such a determination. Just to pick one - what do [u:9862b4d63f]you[/u:9862b4d63f] think would happen to a sample of H&S if you heated it to 150C and placed it in a rotary viscometer spinning at 3600 RPM and .0005 rotor clearance? You could get a preliminary idea by putting a sample in a pot on the stove and leaving it on HIGH for about 1/2 an hour. Actually my guess is you won't haave to wait anywhere near that long to get an answer....

I do know that dishwashing detergent (liquid kind) is a viable substitute for brake fluid when you want to drive your '38 Pontiac (that ran fine and had just paid $25 for) for about 4 miles. HTH ;^)

I know it's good for washing my hair and for getting fish smell off of my hands after cleaning a mess of bluegills. I'll stick to motor oil in MY crankcase. (grin)
