ot new tractor

My father is looking to buy a new tractor. We've looked at a Case Farmall 45 and a Kubota L4400 and I think we are going tomorrow to look at a john deer as well. He's looking for something around to 40 hp mark with hydrostatic trans and a front end loader. Any of you have any suggestions or favorites. Anything we should be looking for or avoiding?

Don't know anything of value for you but I have noticed several people using OT. Whats that stand for? My guess would be Other Tractor.

my newest tractor is a TN55, hew holland, and I have use of a tc45 with a bucket on it,, neither are hydro though, but I think you will find it is hard to get all teh power to ground , they are way light, even with loaded tires its a challenge, need weights,, they are coming soon,

as far as what tractor , not sure if I could help, I know I havent any trouble with mine, but the neighbors had a little trouble with his tc45,, hydro pump, hard shifting in and out of gears,

I think al makes of new tractors are light though,

Try this site. I bought a Branson 3510I last year with bucket and backhoe and love it. Comes sguttle shift or hydrostat and with a whole range of horsepower lecvels. Look around but they are a really well built tractor compare and you will be pleasantly surprised.

I own a small Kubota and I'm a big fan - modest prices, bullet proof full featured machines, and excellent parts availability. The L4400 HST looks to be a very nice tractor. My experience with the Cub Cadet line from Case has been miserable - the Farmall's look to be better from what I saw on the lot - prices were high compared to Kubota I thought. I also stopped by the JD dealer and the prices sent me out the door without any further investigation.

I'd be interested in hearing the prices you get quoted.

If you have a Montana Tractor dealer anywhere close to you take a look at them. They are built heavier than Kubota and offer all the things you are looking for. I've always been into the Ford and IH tactors but the new Montanas are impressive. At least take a look before you buy one.

Take your time and shop around, it's a buyers market and don't be afraid to offer a lot less than quoted. Those of us south of the border would deeply appreciate you buying an American built product. In these times by doing so both Canadians and us in the USA would benefit from your purchase.

Hmmm..... that might be hard to do in this particular market segment - of the brands mentioned:

Kubota - Japan (Kubota)
Montana - Korea (LS)
Farmall - Japan (Shibaura)
NH - Japan (Shibaura)
JD - ???

I can say that the local bota dealer is very supportive,,, the CNH dealer is also

Their is some weak parts on the botas and I expect the CNH tractors also,,, seames every time I stop by the bota dealer the arse end is busted out of a bota, the lift covers are busted,,, the axle housings are broke,,, they are just to small to do work like a N and take a lic'n,,, we really don't know how lucky we are put'n up with this old chit (N's),,, for what it would cost to fix this new stuff I could own every N in the county

I replaced the clutch pack for the shuttle shift in a Bota a few years ago,,, bota knew they had a fudge up and admitted it but also said they did not have any goodwill money at that time (this was during good times) The guy I fixed it for owns 3 botas,,, I did not expect them to pay the hole bill but he would have been very happy if they would have paid a small percentage of the parts bill,,, it would not have hurt them and most likely would have been good for a few more sales

If you are gonna do alot of loader work then a shuttle shift are hydrostatic is the way to go

Buying "American" is on my list when I purchase things but not at the top. I am not going to buy a piece of crap just because it was manufactured here. I usually look for quality first, reliability, parts available etc, price, versatility, then I might look at where it is manufactured.

I think that Case Farmall has been struck off the list for us as the dealer here just tried a "fast one" on us after bringing in our 06' skidsteer in for a head gasket recall. They tried to sell us a $450.00 muffler because the steel bracket that secures it was snapped. Had they just said "hey your muffler has a broken bracket that could be either welded for $50 or we can replace it all together for $450.00", they probably would have gotten some work along with an oil change etc. instead, they tried to milk a simple fix for big money.

Buying American now days means someone is making out like a bandit off the name,,, outsource it and badge it with a well known American company name,,, heritage don't mean chit any more,,, go with yer gut

The only real way to buy American any more is to buy a used one. Even the "American made" machinery has lots of furrin parts in it, or is put together completely somewhere else.

You want to make sure your money stays here and circulated in the good ol' USA (or Canada :) ) a little bit, buy one a year old. You've got a dang near new tractor, and the money will stay in the upper 2/3 of this continent for at least a transaction or two before it gets overseas, that part of it that Uncle Sam or the Queen don't get.

Got a quote from a local Kubota dealer on a L4400 w/ loader

The unit has been on the lot for over a year now so they said they'd give a good deal on it.

The price breakdown is laughable.
price for tractor
price for front wheels
price for rear wheels
price for loader
price on skid steer attachment system for loader
price for bucket for loader

after "discount" they wanted 25,000 Canadian for it. We could save 1500 by ordering without tires. Would be almost worth it just to see them deliver it that way. another 1000 less without a bucket. But then if you order without bucket then you could order without loader as well. Now in their defense the wheel thing may be set up that way because there are two different types you can get - construction or agra. But they are the same price so why bother doing it this way? I can't remember buying a car or truck and them charging extra for wheels. I can't stand car salesmen and now I think that tractor salesmen are just as slimy. I think we are going to let them keep their tractor and begin looking at something in the used department. Maybe 1 or 2 years old. Let you know what happens.

Re: TheOldHookie's info. JD is also forgein made. All John Deere tractors under 150HP are built in China. JD owns 3 factories in China. So much buying American!!!!
