OT: Problems with your computer?

No, this is not spam:-)

I have really enjoyed all the posts on this forum for a long time. I can't offer much advice on N repairs since I haven't really dived in to any big projects.

What I can offer is computer support. I've supported computer users for over 25 years for three different companies, and really enjoy helping people come to terms with their PC's.

I might add that I have never charged anyone for help (and don't intend to start) so if you are wrassling with your computer, please let me know and I might be able to assist.

thanks,
Doug

You must be a glutton for punishment youngster. I did that off and on for a decade or so longer than you. The last half dozen it wasn't actually my job but I still got a lot of folks who would drop in with a network or PC problem that "corporate" support couldn't fix for them. I placed a BIG sign on my office door that said "Users R Losers!" to discourage any but the truly desparate from venturing in ;-)

Youngster? Hardly...at 52 I am by no means wet behind the ears...

I am willing to help anyone on this board with computer problems, just like all of the members who are more than willing to help others with tractor problems.

Since a computer of some kind or another is the primary way members can participate in these discussions, I figure I can help the group out by helping members stay connected.

That's it - nothing up the sleeve, just want to help out where I can, like all the contributing members do here everyday.

Doug

Oh, and I might add, I have NEVER met a 'Luser"(?) before - just people with questions that they need answers to. Simple as that.

Ok - I use XP running fierfox.. How do I get rid of Bing? It took out my MSN mail and gave me Hotmail and I don't like that.

I just got a new computer and need to copy my programs over. I don't have the CDs and don't know where they went. I need my Outlook and Excell. This new netbook thing don't have a CD drive????

Sorry, just kidding! You asked for it. Naw, thats a nice offer.

I was just ribbing you friend - please don't take offense. That's a nice offer and you already have a growing clientel.

As for the sign on my door - it was basically a joke as well but some of my users needed a litttle "serious encouragement" to help themselves. Like the computer scientist with 2 PH.D.'s that "couldn't remember" how to configure a new network printer despite having been walked through it at least a 1/2 dozen times. People who have the intellect and training to understand an explanation they have been given repeatedly but simply won't expend the effort because it's someone elses job to do it for them are losers in my book. Perhaps that mindset stems from my early tutelage at the hands of a very smart and helpful lady who would gladly and lucidly explain something to the first time you brought a computer problem to her. If you were supposed to be a computer professional and you came back a second time with the exact same problem your conference would be decidedly abrupt and chilly. And she had a memory like an elephant.....

I have a PC problem and need help.

16 GB original C: drive says it"s "Too Full" and is apparently SO full I can"t delete ANYTHING from it.

Now, somehow I deleted programs (Word, pdf reader etc)or at least hid them so well I can"t access them.

I also have a 60 GB G: drive installed as second HD.

Any idea how to clean up c drive hard drive when it"s Too full to delete stuff?

Howdy!
I tried to post earlier, but the posting came up blank... anyway, here goes again... I have a problem with my desktop not appearing upon boot-up. All I get sometimes is the background, but no icons, and i have to reboot. Also, whenever I go to google, and do a search, I have to cut and paste the url of the searched item into a different browser to get there, otherwise if I simply click on the link, it starts to go to the correct website, but gets hijacked and goes to a random site. Is there some sort of hijacking bug I have on my computer? Symantic can"t find anything.

Do you have any idea of the spammers that crawl this site for email addresses the way you just posted yours to overload your email with spam?

If not, you may soon.
