OT shear bolt

I got a new 6' "bush hog" type mower. I put a common bolt in the connection between the PTO shaft and the gearbox. I like to take the PTO shafts off of things for the winter and keep them inside, but the bolt has torqued just enough that I can't get it out easily. Could I safely go to a little harder bolt or just live with what I've got and saw it off come winter. Yeah, planning a bit too far ahead, I know. Thanks.

It is a shear bolt, they tend to shear partway through as the year goes on and do not come out. You can always run up the tractor, engage the pto and finish it off.

Yep, hack the sucker off later and replace with the cheapest crappiest bolt you can find, it will protect your unit by failing. HTH

Been there, done that. I didnt pay attention when I sheared a bolt off and mistakenly put a grade 5 bolt in. Ended up breaking the teeth off the countershaft idler and the transmission drive gear. Not a fun project.
Use what the brush hog calls for or a grade 2 bolt. Dont go with a harder bolt.
