OT - Starting 2Cycle On one Plug

[FRANK - PA]

Unable to get on the boat forum and will probably
get a better answer here. My 25 HP Evinrude does
not want to start when cold. I remove one spark
plug and it starts right up. After it warms up I
put in the second plug and have no problems
starting. What causes this??

I once bought a 6 cylinder pickup truck that did the same thing! The problem was a plugged exhaust system. Clean or replace your muffler.

Could be a vacuum leak @ intake and once its warmed up the heated up intake seals up and then runs on second cyl.

Interesting observation. Question (s), will it start on either cylinder as long as one plug is removed or is it limited to the one cylinder as the starting cylinder? What do you do with the removed spark plug and lead...is the lead attached to the plug with the plug laying on the cylinder head? Does it have a single coil with two plug leads (wasted spark) or two coils with one plug lead each?

Make sure the exhaust port is clear on both cylinders.
