OT- sweet corn

I am going to attempt to plant about a half acre of sweet corn this year(never planted sweet corn before). My question is what type of fertilizer should I use and should it be applied with the seeds or wait until it comes up? Also do I have to keep fertilizing it during its growth or is it a one time thing? Thank you

When I plant my sweet corn, I do not fertilize it at the time it is planted but wait until it get about 6-8 inches tall and then side dress it using 10-10-10. I again sided dress it using 10-10-10 when it begins to tassel out. If my soil wasn't good, I might fertilize the field a bit before planting, but my good soil doesn't need it.

Do a soil test to determine what you need for pH and P & K. You may need to add that before you plant. I side dress my sweet corn with ammonium nitrate (33-0-0) when it's knee high and again when it tassels.

A half acre of sweet corn is a lot of corn. In addition to the seed and fertilizer expense, you will need to cultivate it. And spray it for ear worms.

Jimbo's 8n,Bruce gave you great advice, test your soil.Your local county extension office usually does tests for free or a small charge, check it out for instructions and bags.If it were me I wouldn't plant the whole 1/2 acre at once.Plant it in 2 week intervals so it doesn?t all come in at once, maybe 4-8 rows at a time and you will have fresh sweet corn a lot longer.Fresh Tender Sweet Corn YUM!
