OT---TV---internet

Howdy,
Wife says we should switch service from Charter to Directv. I just spent the last half hour reading the fine print and aside from a headache I didn't learn much. Must sign a 2 year contract, first year sounds pretty good, about half what we now pay, second year fine print makes me nervous.
Anyone out there have Directv package?---TV and high speed internet? Any problems, comments?
Appreciate any advice.

Hi Bob,
We had it until about 5 years ago, after using it for 5 years. We switched to Dish and got a DVR, service to two TV's, and a better option package with more channels we like.

I've had both. They give you lots of "free" to start, then in 6 months you have one hell of a large bill. Unless you cancel on time. Wording is so no one understands. Be aware that those "free" will come back to haunt you. I think dish has a bit better people to talk to.

i think the goverment owns the cable systems, they make a bunch of promises that they can't keep. they sell you a bill of rights, your bills goes right into their pockets.

I've had DirecTV for about 13 years now, no complaints. Only for teevee, though. Internet is thru a DSL connection. No cable in this neighborhood. It seems like the folks that have problems with DirecTV must either have their dish aimed incorrectly or they're expecting something for nothing.

Sattelite internet service is terrible compared to everything else except dial-up. So you need to keep Charter for the internet, at least.

I've had Directv for 15 years, at two houses. It's great for TV, though spendy when DVRs and HD are added in.

I think in the long run dish network is cheaper. Still, we have 150 Channels, by the time you filter out the 20 sports channels, 20 shopping channels, 5 hispanic channels, Dish Network's own channels, the reality TV channels, the pay channels, BET and others, we're down to about maybe 20 channels we watch.

My neighbor has their internet service and it's very slow. Mine's not real fast but compared to his its greased lightning.
I have their TV service and their prices keep going up and up so this summer I'm going to fire them and just use an antenna. Don't be conned by their low-priced introductory costs.

Maybe I should have also asked about Frontier, but we had their land line phone service for many years and when I would call with a problem I got India. (Peggy ?)

I don't mean to be a stick in the mud but when we moved away from town 4 years ago we dropped our cable TV and never looked back.

We get 15 channels over-the-air. The antenna is in the attic over the garage and picks up everything great. Two of the channels are movie channels and 2 are video channels. Three are PBS stations. We have RTV (retro stuff) and Antenna TV (the better old, old sit coms and stuff). Then we have the network channels and their weather channels and maybe another odd channel or two. Plenty of stuff to watch if the outbuilding is too cold to work inside and it's too nasty outside and I'm just too plain lazy that day.

For internet we use a Verizon Wi-Fi 2200 card since the only other thing available to us was dial up over the copper phone line.

For phone service we each have a cell phone.

No house phone, cable, dish, nothing!

When I'm home I don't have time to watch TV unless I'm dog-tired in the evening or we have the grand kids over and I can access the internet from work when things are slow.

Anyway, I doubt this helps answer your question but that's what we do.

Dan I wish, but without the cable we get 3 channels, 2, 5,7, 5 & 7 are the same so basically 2 channels and not too good of reception. When we signed up we were both working and being as we don't go out much it is our main entertainment. But I no longer work and the wife is part time

I've had Directv. I think I've gotten better service/value with Dishnet.

Just remember the word FREE nobody gives you something for free. Don't let them insult you inteligance. Sooner or later you will have to PAY FOR THAT FREE, When they say FREE I ask how much it is going to cost me.

I had directtv for a while, and it was just OK. Then one day we lost reception and after I called them, they informed me that it would be at least 5 days and maybe longer for repair.
To me, that is not good, I called Dish and was hooked up the next day. I have had problems but they are always here the next day I have had Dish for about 3 years and still get "begging Mail" from directtv EVERY week :!:
