OT Western Snow Plow

I have become the owner of a snow plow in Alabama. We just don't have a need for them here. (just cubs and biscuits) I am trying to find out what it is worth.
Thanks

A picture would be nice. Too many variables to price it. How old, straight blade, v blade, ........................?????

Lots more to consider. Unimount? Ultra-Mount? Steel or poly blade? What make/model truck did it come off of? What about the wear blade? Overall condition?

And yes, it makes a difference about which vehicle. When we got ours, it came off of a '04 Ram 2500 but would not fit on our '01 Ram 1500. Got everything hooked up except the plow lights.

If you want, email some pics to me at kcm.mn.yt at gmail_com and I'll post them.

Dang, am I embarrassed. I took a couple aspirin earlier and went in to take a nap. My apologies!!

OK, here are the pics:

[i:8ab535c127]It was mounted on 1986 GMC. The blade is in very good condition and has the skids for the lower corners of the blade to keep it from digging in. I know some one needs this plow in yankeeville, but we just don't get that much snow in Alabama.[/i:8ab535c127]

First, I'm not familiar with that old of a plow. I have a Western poly plow with Ultra-Mount, but it's a few years newer than that one.

For others in the know, would that setup connect electrically with pretty much any vehicle? I know that one can still get truck mounts from Western, but not sure how far back they go.

It might end up helping if the truck were to go with it. That's a common way folks sell them up here, but not always. We got ours without the truck. Guy wanted to keep his truck and upgrade to a V-plow.

In the snowbelt it is probably worth between $500 and $1500. Consider: It is probably from a 1970's truck but with the subframe for the 86 GMC. That lift pump is the same as what I had on my 75 IH plowtruck, and I bought it used then. The controls are cables which are operated from a T handle joy stick, and they get iced up and suffer from rust. Nobody with a truck less than 20 years old will want that system. I use a much more reliable system based on electrical solenoids for lift, lower, and turn which was built by Meyers (and now Western uses the solenoid system). It came new on my 86 Dodge and I'm still using it. That truck died from frame rust, so my Meyers C-8 got switched to my 88 Dodge (not so rusty, but getting there). I fitted my older Western blades to the front of tractors and use tractor hydraulics to lift and turn. But to make that happen you will need to fabricate your own subframe for the tractor.

Your blade looks good with no rust through, and it has a good cutting edge. But I guess that you are in the wrong part of the country to have much market for it. If you find someone who wants to adapt the blade and its A frame to a tractor, then you might get $500.

Good Luck

Being from the snowbelt I think you're a bit over optimistic on your estimate of $500+. It's an old plow for an old truck.

In the snowbelt, they use salt. The combination of salt and moisture rusts metal. The metal from those old 70s and 80s trucks was poor. Nobody has one that is in any condition to plow. They're either rusted out heaps or trailer queens.

You'd be lucky to get $100-$200 for it, at least around here.

I've got one just about like that without the light frame for plowing snow on my 806. It mounts on 2 channels coming down from the clutch housing and hangs on a couple angles bolted to the front of the front casting with an angle across the top of it for the hydraulic cylinder. 2 bolts/pins for the hinge at the back of the blade frame and the cylinder. Angle and lift with the remotes. Been using it for several years.

A quick CL check here in SWMI snow belt brought up a similar plow in a bit rougher condition for $190 and a clean one already converted to skid steer quick attach for $1100. YMMV
