OT: Whatzit?

There hasn't been a "Do you know what this is?" post in a while. This is a tool I occasionally use in my job. Any guesses?

Are you serious? I have a violin that needs to have the sound post reset. I always wondered how they did it.

Woo Hoo - I got it right!

I have a fiddle player son, and I own one of these, but can't use it very well. It takes a real talent to spear the post (a short length of spruce dowel) on the pointy end, thread it though the hole on the violin top, and wedge it into place where it supposed to go. You are supposed to be able to use the other end to adjust the position of the post to maximize the sound.

It is a real art!
