had a notice from MS this morning that the first update of w-10 was available plus free download of w-10. so I went ahead and let the puter do its magic. everything came out OK except I lost my favorite sites. I have been trying to retrieve them using MS instructions but so far have not had any luck. anyone got any tips I could use/try? we use AOL.

thanks!

Be aware that if you are not happy with Windows 10 you have thirty days to revert back to your previous operating system. I was not happy (too many "bugs", and was going to go back to Windows 7. However, I went beyond 30 days and now I am stuck with it.

How badly do you want Windows 7? All you need is a Windows 7 installation CD and the key - cost you about $80 for a new shrink wrapped distribution - used probably a lot less.

windows 7 was like icing on a cake. not many frills, straightforward, easy to understand. we then went to win 8 and hated it. then went to 8.1 and hated that. now we have win 10. it seems ok so far but the thing is just too darn busy. it's just win 7 packaged with more baubles, frills and things that, for us, are not necessary. reminds me of a few years ago the local WM rearranged their store. same stuff, different locations. took awhile to figure out where everything was relocated to.

I'm an XP man myself  Bottom line is under the hood there has been little of "substance" added since Windows 2000. The majority of changes in new releases center around the user interface - people want it to look and feel like a smart phone. Plus Microsoft keeps trying to make it harder for Joe Blow to get his itchy little hands on real management functions that can FUBAR the system ;-) That said my next machine (which given the behavior of the current one is coming soon) will be running Windows 10. You can only stay behind the hardware curve so long......

From what I understand Win 10 has many "trackers" built in.
If you don't mind them spying on you you're ok.
Otherwise google "Win10 trackers", there are many freeware programs out there to disable this add on.

Check your privacy and security settings often.
All of my Windows 10 machines updated this week, as they should.
The updates set most of the settings back to defaults, re-enabling the tracking.

I would be cautious with freeware programs.
There's a reason they're giving them away for free and
it is not usually an altruistic reason.

I got three machines running win 10 and have gone thru and shut down all the tracking bits. not to difficult to do, just have to look at all of the settings.
win 10 works good for me.

Use freeware to fix what you consider a security issue?
