This evening, my computer was sitting idle in sleep mode for a few hours. When I came into the room to use it, it was in the process of "Upgrading Windows". This wasn't the first time Microsoft has spontaneously provided me with system upgrades, but this looked different---and it took over an hour after I became aware of it. I told my wife that I wondered if Microsoft had crossed the line from continuously, aggressively offering free Windows 10 upgrades to simply installing it unasked. This turned out to be the case. At the end of the installation, I was welcomed to Windows 10, and asked to sign the legal agreement for it. I clicked on Decline. I was given one chance to change my mind, then the upgrade was uninstalled, and my previous version was reinstalled. My wife found information about how people have been having this happen. Tomorrow I'll have to spend some time learning how to rescind my consent allowing Microsoft to automatically install upgrades. From now on, I guess I'm going to have to go through offered upgrades, system fixes, etc. and individually choose the ones I want. I'm not pleased about this. I feel like I already spend more time than I would like being forced to deal with technology that doesn't interest me.
