OT wireless buzzer/alarm

Need some kind of wireless beam type alarm. My Mother has cancer-not doing well..Don"t need to/not able to get up by herself but sometimes does..Dad has to sleep in another room because he snores so bad--noone sleeps in same room with him. Thought about and looked at things like driveway alert, but not sure the chime type is loud enough to wake my Dad up and I"m thinking the infared transmitter might transmit too wide a beam----anyway need something that shoots straight beam that if broken by Mom trying to leave her room, would alert him in the room next to hers.He is hard of hearing so needs to be more than a chime. Any thoughts? Thanks

Tom, I am sorry to hear about your mom. I bought one of those driveway alarms from the chinese tool store. I think they call their stuff Bunker Hill. Anyway, mine has two volume settings and the loud is pretty loud. Not sure it would wake dad up but it might be worth the 18 or so dollars to try. You might have to be creative about how and where to locate the sensor. I just prayed for you and your family. TJ

Sorry to hear that Tom.

When my Dad was in a similar condition (bone cancer) we were able to get an alert system, wheelchair, hospital bed etc from our local commission on aging at no charge.

That would be the first place to look for me. You might also talk to local doctors, nursing homes or clergy to see if they have other resouces that could help.

Couldn't say what brand it is bit the local NAPA has a unit on their front door that will just about knock you off your feet going in. Freaking anoying is what it is. I think it is some kind of industral garage door alarm.

Sorry about your mom. Your local medical home oxygen company should be able to set you up with alarming floor sensors and anything you may need. Consider hospice also, they were wonderful when my mom passed. They can point you to resources. These are all devices that may be covered by medicare.

I use a wireless door bell,,, I got one with 2 door bell buttons,,, one strapped to the bed and one were she can get to... It will wake you up... My receiver is on the nite stand beside my brd $29 bucks and works...

Google utilitech wireless door bell...

Dakota Alert 3000 driveway monitor I use is really loud. It works with three types of systems - beam break, induction (metal in vehicle), and one other way - i cant remember. It has a relay built it in it that you can wire up to a separate system such as a doorbell too. I'm sure you could easily adapt this to work. I have two systems right now for our driveways and they work great. Their customer support is fantastic too. Good luck.

I miss read yer post,,, my wife can not get up by herself so I don't worry about her leaving me,,, if she needs me the door bell works very good tho...

hospice,,, make sure you understand what you give up if you take the benefit... it did not work out well when my dad took the benefit... We did use hospice for about 6 mo. when my mom was unable to motivate and sent them pack'n as soon as she got better... hospice has changed since my dads death if they had not I would have never let them have control of the wheel again...

Yea, my Mother can get up by herself. Her left leg is really weak so she don't need to get up by herself--small bedroom-I'm looking for something that would alert my Dad in the next room if she gets up and starts around the side of the bed, then he could get up and help her and be sure the weak leg doesn't let her down..The wireless drive-way alert seems to be fine BUT not sure if the wide beam will be set off unnecessarily and not sure the chime will be loud enough..My Dad is pretty hard of hearing Unless he happens to go try to kill a turkey and listen for a gobble...Actually depends on the tone or pitch so guess as far as sound is concerned won't know unless tried----also can't tell from ebay descriptions if the chime would be just one little ding or if it would chime for several seconds..All comments I've heard about Hospice in this area have been really good-they were great with my Grandfather who we lost to lung cancer in Dec. 1995. Thanks for the info.
