I have the opportunity to buy a Woods RM600 finish mower for 500.. light usage and barn kept. side discharge. will only use for cutting yard grass.

opinions on mower and price please.

thanks.

Bought a used RM600 back in 2008 and been mowing 5 acres twice a week since using my 1948 8N. Mine is a 96 model year so it is 19 years old. I replaced the original belt last year. I have not had to do anything else with it except normal maintenance.

Good mowers and reasonable price if well cared for and lightly used. IIRC my RD7200 cost roughly $1800 new and that was nearly 20 years ago....

I have an RM600. I bought it used and have been using it about 20 years. I have replaced the belt once, the side skids once and the wheels once. I grease it before every use. I mow about 3 acres around my house and barn and another 1.5 acres of path around my back lot.
The thing I would change is remove the height chains on the front and ad a set of wheels. It does scalp once in awhile when tractor rear tires go into a dip and does "hike up" if front wheels go into a dip.
I pull my mower with a Jubilee in third gear. I used to pull it with my '52 8N in third gear and it handled it well if I kept up with grass growth. I had a 7' Woods for a short time but it was just too big for my yard and I sold it.
My son also has an RM600. He mows over 2 acres every week with his Jubilee.

If you can I will say try it out before you buy it. I have 2 that we got used and both need new bearings put in. Not woods brand just finish mowers.

if it was on a tractor and I could hear/see it run it might already be on one of my tractors. I hate buying something that runs off pto that's not hooked up.

Even if you have replace a bearing it's still a good price. I understand the want to see it run first, I bought a Bush Hog 5 foot rear discharge at an auction, had to rebuild one spindle a replace bearings on other two spindles at about 150.00. But it should last another 10 yr or so. :D :D
