Our first combine - Gleaner R52

We bought our first combine last week and brought it home this week. It is a 1994 Gleaner R52 with 2400 engine hours and 1741 separator hours. We bought it as a package with a 6-row hugger head, a 20' 500 grain table, and a UM header cart. We can't wait for wheat harvest. So far I have given my 2 year old son three rides in the "bombine" and my 12 year old daughter said "Oh it has a nice radio, I am definitely helping with harvest this year. When is wheat harvest?"

Nice looking combine..Thanks for the pictures..Gleaners used
to be very popular in my area and then we lost all our dealers
in the 1980's..Theres very few newer ones around now but
several older ones are still being used..

Nice looking Gleaner. Same story here, most people have
gotten rid of theirs and went red or green. The closest AGCO
dealer doesn't even sell new combines. He will service the
ones that are out there but doesn't handle many parts. Hope
harvest goes well.

Worst rep of the Gleaner rotary was earned by the N5. What, 1980s? Even with all the factory updates, I wouldn"t want one. Recent years.....whole different story. Neighbor is a Tx-Dakota custom cutter- says the Gleaners are better than his JD, but he went JD cuz of the finance program.

Our closest AGCO dealer is 15 miles away and was orginially an Allis Chalmers dealer, they have been working on Gleaners for decades. There are actually more Gleaners in our area than Case-IH, but JD is still the most used harvester in our area.

I just received word that my filler bars are in so will begin getting the old girl ready for wheat harvest which looks to be about 3 weeks earlier than usual.

Good luck with that machine. Used to have a guy from Oklahoma come cut my wheat back when that model was new. After he left, all I had to do was plant in between the rows of straw. That thing threw more grain out the back than it put in the hopper. No joke either.

The guy didn't have a clue how to adjust or operate, if he was throwing that much over.Have run silver for 35 years, if set right, a sparrow will starve. Sounds like a cutter concerned about just covering acres.

Nice looking machine. My FIL runs an R62 and it works great. Gleaners are very popular in our area of Kansas. Silver and green machines are about equally represented around here with red and (a very few) yellow ones every now and then.

I agree...I've seen every color leave a trail when they were driving too fast or when they werent properly adjusted...Gleaners dominated in my area until we lost our dealer..He now farms and runs a N-5,N-7,and R-62 Gleaners and they all do a fine job..

Obviously the "old boy" didn't know how to operate or adjust the Gleaner. You can make most any combine do a good job if you know what you are doing.
