Over bearing

I need to replace 2 cone bearings on my '39 Oliver 70. I have the bearing # but I'm having a hard time justifying 90 dollars for a 10 dollar bearing times 2. anybody ever sourced reasonably priced bearings? they're only for the steering shaft so I don't need or want Timko Chinese junk. Thanks

I source reasonably priced bearings all the time. It helps if you post the bearing number. And I've never heard of Timko, but Timken bearings come from all over these days.

The bearing number is Timken 15BA-16 ( sorry for the Timco type-o). I believe the 15BA is the bearing # the 16 is for the race. I've seen the bearing for 80 bucks but the race is about 280 bucks. This bearing would tightly fit over my thumb just to give you an example of its size. Thankyou for your help. The Oliver part number is CS-5019.

Those are going to be harder to find given they're probably an obsolete bearing, and absent a cross reference catalog from the 50s-70s, you're going to have a hard time searching. I'm guessing you'll be having to hunt down new old stock bearings which is why you're seeing $90 prices. I'd be shocked if the carriers are still available. Where did you see $280? If that was the case I'd clean and polish the cups best I could and call it a day.

There's a Co. called Philly ball and roller I understand will help cross reference older stuff like this, I'll try them tomorrow. My bearings are completely destroyed so measuring them is out of the question. Some obtuse website listed the cones but when I saw the price I deleted them. It really doesn't mean they actually have them. You're right cleaning the old ones will be the ticket there. I'll keep plugging away for some new old stock or maybe a cross reference number and see what happens. Thank you for your help I appreciate it very much.

RTC63 have you tried an AGCO dealer? They can do a parts search. I have found the impossible parts this way before. You can get the bearing measurements without the bearing by measuring the shaft where the bearing rides and measure the housing where the race sits. Wityh those a good bearing house can find your bearing. Hope that helps.

I found this cross reference with Google.

Thanks so much for all that help! I tried every lead suggested here except EZ Bearing and every one was a dead end. Even unfortunately the cross referenced numbers turned up nothing. I did run across a Co. called Locate Ball Bearings. They said the had them but I didn't hear back from the sales guy so I'll try EZ Bearing today. Like always the YT community is the best place for help.

As I suspected. eBay is going to be your best bet. Locateballbearings has an ebay store which is where they offload some low quantity bearings. You may want to check eBay anyway. I've had a lot of luck there with NOS bearings.

I use to get stuff from lbb.com but always had to call the order in. Their online order form never worked for me. Then they stopped returning calls. When I finally got through I was told they only do commercial orders, no more individuals. They gave me EZ and I've stuck with them.

Since locateballbearings.com is no longer doing individual sales they referred me to EZ Bearing. Darrel Zimmerman 717 568-8800. Good pricing and helpful.
From those numbers, I'm guessing they are steering gear bearings? I got a set from lbb for my E4 but EZ came through for my JD H, both reasonably priced.
