over ride clutch

I would like to know how many of you fellers actually use an override clutch when running a bush hog, Back when I was younger we always had one, cause grandpa told me he didn't want to build fence. I ran mine last year without one, and got along fine, but the more I am reading on this forum its got me about half afraid to keep on running her without one. you got to remember your first loves your wife and then comes the 8n.

orc purchased from here for 50 bucks, but it was a bit small for the 9n pto so i had to file it for about 3 hours to make it work. Local tractor store here sells for 75 I would day they are worth it.

I never run a mower without one. As a young man watched one neighbor pull another out of a pond because of no ORC. Both were Fords. Things like that stick with you. joe

I mowed this spring first several times without ORC and thought I got along fine... Found an old one and tried it out. I would probably give 500 bucks for one if that is what they cost. Amazing how much easier it makes the work, not to mention the SAFETY issue. If I would have had one a week sooner, I might still have that high dollar peach tree in the yard.

There will be some who tell you that they've never used an ORC in the 30 years they've owned their N tractor. Some will tell you that their brakes are shot but never use the brakes anyway.

But one of these days they may well wish they had spent the $50.

I can tell you about two people I know / knew that didn't have them.

One broke his back driving off a ledge & the other drowned pinned under his N.

Both were mowing & were smart guys.

I can't think of reason not to have one.
