Is there any adjustment that can be made on an NAA generator? My 2N has an adjustment but the NAA appears to be sealed. I have tried 3 voltage regulators and 2 ammeters and it still charges up to 25 amps or more when running. When you shut down the tractor the battery reads almost 12 volts across the terminals. It burned out the 6V headlights a long time ago. And yes, it is wired correctly.

I'm not going to claim to be a generator expert but that sounds
excessive. Are you sure a previous owner didn't put a 12V
generator on it?

I have found it tough to find good 6V regulators, so I have
converted my NAA's to 12V with an alternator.
I still have a good 6V generator I took off if you need one.
My email is open.

First off the generator does not know of any voltage, it just charges when told by voltage being fed to the field terminal.

Its the regulators job to control it. The regulator has a cut out relay, a voltage control relay and a over current relay, all doing different jobs.

You either have a bad regulator, or a 12 volt regulator or bad ground between the regulator and the battery so it cant sense the voltage correctly. You may also have a dropping resistor or bad connection between the regulator and the battery fooling the regulator into charging much higher... Or your running full charge all the time due to something putting voltage on the field of the generator. Or the generator field is shorted with the output and getting a false or incorrect feed on the field. (assuming is a modern b circuit setup) an early a circuit would also have similar problems.

Any regulator you buy now is made in India garbage. I went through the same problem you are having. Take the cover off of the regulator and adjust the points inside, it may take a few tries but you can bend them to where it is cutting out at the proper voltage. I grew tired of this and converted to a 12v alt. Good luck.

I'm with the others.

bad regulator

WRONG regulator

WRONG genny ( 12v? )

Bad wiring ( may have it full fielded. )
