Packet Rage !

I have had enough of super tight jar lids , welded on bottle caps and earthquake proof plastic packs .
Age , annoyance and arthritic hands aside I really do think that modern packaging , like taxation , is a measure to keep the general populace meek and contained .
Otherwise just what is the point of it all ?
This morning I had to resort to using a nut cracker as a pair of pliers in order to open the plastic milk bottle , the cap distorted and needed to be prised off in the end . Once off there was an internal seal to contend with , this took surgery with a pair of nail scissors to remove !
A lovely fine long shank drill bit ; still in the original packaging that my late father bought it in snapped when I tried to remove it !
As well as these insults to modern existence I cut my thumb almost to the bone opening the blister packet of an innocent coffee scroll ( an iced bun ) .
Theft and biosecurity considerations seem to have overtaken common sense , practicality and function .

I feel your angst. If we packaged plutonium this way, there would be no leakage ever. My personal 'most hated' is rigid plastic packs that are heat sealed so ultimately get hacked to small chunks to release the contents.

I think it's a conspiracy against old folks! Recently got a pill bottle it took 15 minutes to figure out how to open. Then got a blister pack of medicine that was super glued together. Had to take a pair of tweezers to poke around the pill and get it out.

For the blister packs a knife or other sharp tool will open them pretty easy along with some of the other heat sealed items. I usually use a saw/knife for opening things with plastic anymore just easier than fighting with it to open. I use a knife for the seal on bottles like a Malt or Chocolate and such.

A lot of it is anti-theft security. Some of it is to prevent prevent bottles from leaking their contents in stores making it un-sellable. I keep a pair of channel lock pliers in the house to open bottles. Some packaging I will take to the shop and cut open on a bandsaw. Utility knives also help a lot.

Ignoring conspiracies. A old person, able to be on their own, can think past their limitations imposed by age and not expect to power through like they used to (that didn't always work out well either). Bubble packs need scissors and keep your fingers out of the way. Like grandpa used to always say "cut away from you". Every kitchen needs 2 small clean channel lock pliers and put them back as soon as you are finished 😁 ...

I agree with the above comments I suffer as well. I don't think It is me, as some of the packaging resists sharp knives and pliers. then read the destroyed directions or dosage. But But But, I was at Menards getting some trailer parts. In the 5/16-16 nut bin all but one nut was gone, and that nut was loose in the small bin, the bin was overflowing with empty 2 nut packages. One more nut was found 8 feet down the counter (lonely). What is a mother to do. Jim

I gave up wearing my hearing aids because the batteries are just too hard to get out of the packets without tools. If you think our house is safet because some young child will not choke on a hearing aid battery, you would be wrong. It is safer for other reasons. Mostly because there has not been a preschool child in our house for over a year. But there has been 2 frustrated seniors trying to open safety packaging everyday.

It’s not about batteries in your house it’s about pills in a child’s house. The battery packaging is to keep people from stealing them. Different deal. Use your scissors.
