Pail with lid?

Looks like an old milk/cream can. We used them for maple syrup until recently; the tall and narrow design holds the filter cones perfectly. But now you can get food-grade, stainless milk cans for crazily low prices. Do you need it to be quite so tall/thin? If not, check out something like these ones (link below): That's what we use now - I've bought a few of them. Not cheap, but certainly not expensive for a sealed lid, food-grade, stainless vessel that will outlive you.

When I was young the folks had several in the milkhouse, and used them for milk, cream, and hot water carried from the house to wash the cream separator, milk strainer, and pails. Any hardware store around here had them on the shelf up to probably the mid-70's. A few days ago I asked at several hardware stores and farm supplies and I might as well have asked for unicorn wax!

Today, I looked on 'net and the one$ I found were "u$ed" (read RU$TY) or mostly $maller and sold as country wedding decoration$.

I'm thinking they must be still available somewhere if one knows the "correct" modern name for them?

Wore out, if I may be so bold: What'cha need them for? And if you say "wedding decor" I'm going to hurt myself laughing. steve

I used the one I had to cover the exhaust stack of a damaged green 4630 I bought that is in a remote location. The exhaust cap and extension pipe are damaged and this was an easy way to protect it for the winter 'til it can be dragged to my shop.

That lead me to waxing nostalgic about my growing up years and milking cows with my parents and using those pails and remembering them on the shelf at local hardware stores.

And, as I previously wrote the folks working at such places nowadays were CLUELESS.

So I searched the 'net, thinking if a could find some I would buy a couple as conversation pieces, NO wedding "nonsense" involved, LOL!
