Paint match question

Hello I'm wondering if anyone on here has the correct match in paint code or somehow for MF Flint Metallic grey. The color used in the 70's.Its M1025 paint code in Agco labeled paint and is the correct color. I have tried to match it at my local Napa but having a hard time and what they call that number is not right. Its more like silver mist. I'd like to get it matched in PPG or Martin Senior paint and didn't know if someone has that all done? If not, I'll keep working on it till I get it right.

Is there a part somewhere where the paint is in pretty good shape. You could sand the oxidation and put a clear coat on it and use that as a sample to match the color. Not sure of your Napa but a automotive paint store can computer match a color like your local paint store can match house paint. Someone good at mixing paint can match the color by looking at it.

Like Stephen posted: take a foot board off, clean it with rubbing compound, take it to the paint jobber.

Check ditzier ppg 31644
They used a lot of colors on the MF tractors didn’t they , my club news letter said there were 6 used on the 1967 raffle tractor. A retired dealer for MF confirmed it was correct According to the newsletter .
Good luck , I’m not an an authority on MF color just say

Hi all, new to the forum. Late to the conversation, but I’m painting my MF 135 right now. I found a listing of MF paint codes for various paint manufacturers on the internet(don’t know the website, I printed it out and the printout doesn’t have the website info). I tried Sherwin Williams and PPG to see if they could mix from those codes. No luck with PPG, at least in my location. Sherwin Williams could only do it in an extremely expensive paint, $900/gal. That was a no go for me. I tried taking parts to an automotive paint supplier that has a paint match machine. They were unable to get a good match because their machine did not work well on organic paints. So, ended up buying paint from external_link. They had the Flint Gray Mettalic, Silver Mist Gray, and MF Red. I’m currently painting parts and hope to get the main tractor chassis painted next week depending on weather. Weather changes constantly this time of year for us.

I tried searching for "organic paints" Where do you get this from??? I assume they are trying to match some of the original '70s paint??? organic paints that I found are for kids for painting pictures. Where did you get this organic paint thing?

That external link is link_disallowed dot com.

Yeah, forgot I was on Yesterday’s site. I’ve bought a lot of stuff from Yesterday but just wasn’t sure about paint matches based on their descriptions, especially the Flint Gray Metallic.

First I have heard that. alkyd enamel is very common. Here at YT it is often called "implement paint". Any paint that you get ant any tractor dealer is going to be Alkyd. It is the cheap stuff, which is OK if you aren't spending much time on prep and don't care if it doesn't last, but if you are going to be doing a thorough prep it is a shame to put cheap paint over it.

I ended up with alkyd enamel. Wanted acrylic enamel but just couldn’t make a connection where I live. I’ve spent an enormous amount of time on prep. My tractor is shop kept so should last a good while. It’s a working tractor so not going be a show queen.

So sad.

Paint shops don't like mixing for diyers because customers often don;t want to pay or they often want to return or exchange. Most body shops mix their own.

Paint jobbers, who from what I have seen, are usually within auto parts stores have always been happy to mix whatever I want. I often bring in a part or panel with unmolested, cleaned up original paint for digital analysis. sure, some are not prepared for what it costs, but when someone puts the required time and effort into prep, they are usually willing to spend the extra for good paint.
