Painting a tractor

Setting up my shop to paint , got air compressor picked out, what size air line ? 1/2 or 3/8, less air pressure drops with1/2 inch but from what I read 3/8 is more than adequate?

If your using a 50 foot hose, 3/8" is good. I've got 75 foot and have plenty air to paint lines of parts outside.

not much info here to go by. no compressor size, nor shop size, nor how you are mounting the pipes or if you are even using pipes. or just running a hose off a compressor which is not good as it will have moisture in it.

Paint guns don't require a lot of CFMs so line size isn't all that important. Conversely, if you have an air operated 3/4" impact tool, it really does. Takes a lot of CFMs to get that sucker to perform....but it gets the intended job done.

On painting a tractor, "hats off" to you guys that strip tractors down to the component parts and paint the whole thing. Your work is gorgeous. I can't do that. Don't have the patience for one thing; length of time to do a professional job is longer than I want to be in a project; I'm a performance has to be right guy rather than a guy willing to put the effort into a paint job that is museum qualified.

On the 8N I used a siphon cup gun on 75' of 3/8" hose shooting tinted oil based rust paint with hardener. You need dry air like others have said, and enough capacity to be able to shoot without stopping and waiting for the compressor to catch up. I don't look for perfection- nice and clean and presentable is enough. The 8n went like this. Repaired rusty tin as needed- minimal welding, mostly fibreglass/bondo. Primer and paint. Tin was off, the rest got sandblasted and painted as an assembly, masking/ protecting the important bits. Painted kind of outside- shop doors open when painting and set up to assist the overspray to blow outside. It is my toy but still gets used plowing snow. It is mechanically sound- as much as a 75 year old tractor can be- haha. It looks nice to me. My 5310 gets rusty spots ground off and hit with a brush and "john deere green" rust paint. It isn't my toy. It looks like a 28 year old working machine that is cared for.

i would say its case yellow on case sheet metal.
Yes, I could see that it was Case sheet metal which is why I asked if it was primer, because I was hoping that it was not going to be the top coat, which should be Desert Sand. But as they say it is his tractor....................................

Most guys get by just fine with 3/8. Unless you're doing a massive production run or have a really long run from the compressor, the pressure drop isn't going to be your biggest hurdle.

Starting in 55 Case tractors were tutone...flambeau red and desert sand colors.

The correct color for the case yellow is desert sunset. The early color was desert sand, but there were issues with quality so it was updated to desert sunset. Basically the same color, but more fade resistant and durable.

Sorry, going with the 2stage 5 hp 80 gal undersold Rand from tractor supply, 175 psi, was just going to run a hose no air line , but use an inline dryer and well as a filter regulator on air compressor, that work?

Shop is small as well, 42 by 36 , but tractors will be parked right next to compressor
