The plastic fuel tank on my 1500 is discolored and oxidized where it is exposed to sunlight on the sides-thinking about cleaning the outside of the tank good and painting with "fusion" or similar plastic paint-leaving a thin vertical strip unpainted to gauge fuel level.Though i have used "fusion"with good and long lasting success on many types of plastic,i think the fuel tank is polyethylene-usually difficult to get paint to stick...Anyone have success painting a yanmar plastic tank? Also the fan has a little bit of UV checking from sunlight exposure,so i might treat that with coat of "fusion" too when i have that area apart.

You might try X-I-M primer, carried by Sherwin Williams. Adhere's to any surface, and all paints adhere to it. Have had good luck with it for many years.

thanks for that primer info-supposed to be 60*here in western SoDak this weekend,so might get to this project shortly-hopefully no "fisheye"problems occur...
