I've got a John Deere 40S that appeared to be a really nice tractor when I bought it. It turned out to have a cracked head and, in order to not have that reveal itself, they had no coolant in it(I thought it was just low). I finally found a head for a reasonable number, so I tore it apart to swap the head. Turns out the top of the block was also cracked almost the entire length of the deck. So, I have $3,000 in a tractor with a cracked block. I have someone who will give me $2,000 for it as it sits. So, do I take the loss and move on or part it out and eventually get my money back(likely over a decade or so)?
FYI It's got the 2 lower 3 point arms, pretty nice sheet metal, good lights, 3 new tires and a 4th that has really deep tread but has a cut on the inside, good radiator, generator, ignition system.
