Looking like I will be overhauling my 8n, Any tip on where to get good reliable parts. on this site or other. Locaated in Colorado.
Also, do they make temperture gauge kits to put on 8n's? Mine overheated while mowing and I never noticed it until to late. was a very good running machine before this happened. I parked it and let it cool down. next morning started it up with loud noise. removed the fan belt and noise still present, so not water pump.
afraid it is a bearing ( maine or rod ) .

Start with the top of this page where it says "TRACTOR PARTS"

I've also had good results with external link. Reliable service and fast response.

I just did the temperature gauge on my 640. Had to cut the old cable and put a six-point socket over the old sending plug as it was well and truly rounded off from some prior owner. Not a bad job - hardest part was placing the little nuts on under thew dash one handed. I ended up removing the battery and using my left hand from underneath the cowl to support the bracket. Easy saw out otherwise.

Plan aread and thread the new gauge sending cable through the dash so you have minimal coolant leak.

This site has quality parts reasonably
priced as does nnalert's. But, you will need
to pull the engine down before you order
parts.

Do a search on temperature gauge. Lot's of
stuff in the archives. No kit is available.
75 Tips

Open it up and then take the crank and block to a good machine shop since good chance the crank will need to be turned. NEVER buy parts before opening an engine up since you have no idea what may have been done to it over the years. You may find you have to replace the crank etc.

(quoted from post at 18:42:40 10/27/15) Installing a temperature gauge on an 8N is
a bit more complicated than replacing one
on a 640. He will need to tap the head to
do it right.
