Need help identifying this Perkins 4 cyl diesel engine - it came from a Mustang skid steer. I'm attaching few photos:

Welcome to the Forums.

Look for numbers stamped into the machined flat spots on the block, often just below the block and head interface.

Looks like the 4.108 to me, with an extra block ventilation hole..

The stamped number is the serial number. The second picture is of a casting number it is not the serial number.

Clean the casting number area well to be sure there are no more number hidden by paint, then it will be best to check with a Perkins dealer to get it fully decoded. I do believe it is a 4.108 as Dieseltech posted. What model is the Mustang skid steer? the standard engine likely shows in the specs for the model.

I think there is a letter hiding at the beginning of the first row.

If the engine was made after 1974, you will find some information on PDF-pages 6 and 7 in the attached file.

The Pump spec book I have shows the pump is for the 4.108, engine block pick is more like the 4.108 MINUS one..

I didn't catch the model number of the Mustang when I picked up the motor...

So what is the intention, patch up with JB/epoxy and steel plates? What is the C clamp doing?

Was considering a re-build, but the reality is hitting me hard:
replacement block: $670
replacement crank (scored): $690
replacement oil pan: $80
rebuild kit: $800
bolts, studs, odds and ends: $200
---
roughly about ~$2,500 to rebuild...

I will probably just part it out.

Some sailboats have engines for generator power and also for propulsion when not under sail. The Perkins 4.108 engine was one that was used in such applications.
