TSC Universal Premium Tractor Fluid Trans/Hydraulic is labeled as meeting the Permatran III (which replaced Permatran) and AGCO/Allis Chalmers 821XL fluid.

Look at the labels of the UTHFs you may consider. An aftermarket UTHF of quality will generally list the fluids they can be used for on their label or their Product Data Sheet.

5 gallons of universal trans/hyd oil is 70 bucks or so. Rural king has it, tsc has it, all about the same for their brand names. CAM brand is typically on sale at 50 bucks, same stuff and works fine.

Any idea to what cam2 hydraulic fluid works best in a MF 245.i see they got several different kinds.
You do not want straight hydraulic oils/fluids. You want Cam2 Promax Premium Universal Tractor Hydraulic Fluid, to meet the Permatran requirements.

Is this the same as that

Is this the same as that?

CAM2 PROMAX™ Tractor Hydraulic J20 C Oil, 5 Gallon - 565298

Labels change over time, and sometimes for retailers. I believe with a bit of searching product codes and data sheets you will find it is the same product with a different label. Putting the John Deere J20C on the label can draw the attention to it, as the J20C spec is often referred to for a wet brake/clutch oil.

Im new, but I've been told this is fine. This is what the previous owner was using for the seven years that he owned the tractor.

$47 for 5 gallon from Tractor Supply.

Does the label list the Massey Ferguson spec (should be in your Operator's manual) you need for your 20C? Which transmission do you have? Are you using it just in the loader or in the transmission as well? It will likely be ok, has been for seven years apparently.

J20A was the JD spec before the J20C replaced it. J20C and the Permatran and 821XL fluids fall together.

If you are preferring to me with these questions.

I do not have the operator's manual, so I am
not sure. I also don't know what transmission my tractor has. (New owner. New to tractors in general)

I am only using this in the hydraulic reservoir. Which currently seems to be feeding only the loader and power steering.

Sorry, I didn't quote you, but I was replying to you.

That will be ok in the loader frame reservoir, which is separate from the tractor's internal reservoir (which is the transmission and differential case) and the power steering. The internal reservoir and hydraulic pump supply your 3 point hitch.

I strongly recommend you get an Operator's Manual as soon as you can. It will give you info on the original lubricants, which can be crossed to current products. It will also give you info on operating and maintaining your tractor. You may also want a shop/service manual for it in the future.

Best to start a new thread of your own, to not further confuse your needs with those of Kevin in oh. Post a picture or two, looking down on to the controls, gear shift levers, and pedals of your tractor. That may let someone identify what transmission you have.
