Because this was the last house to be constructed on the site, this is what the builder left under the "lawn". Basically I got all the junk off the rest of the site buried under my rear garden on top of grey clay soil and crushed slate. No wonder the rain water wont drain away!
The contractor has laid in 3 plastic perforated drainage pipes covered with pervious sheeting and crushed & washed gravel. The mini excavator has moved 1/3rd of the garden on top of the old lawn area which is going to be rotovated and relaid with new turf. The garden edges have been excavated down and the new top soil will form raised beds for flower planting.
