I've noticed lately that a number of threads have photos which are sideways instead of right side up, including one that I posted the other day. Never noticed that before. Is there some glitch in the software after this latest update, or are we doing something wrong?
In my case, I posted two photos. One posted correctly, but the other was sideways. Both are correct on my computer.

Look at your pictures. I bet you will find one is bigger in pixels horizontally and one is bigger vertically. Then when you upload them to this site the program here turns the images to where the larger pixel side is facing the same way.

When you upload a photo look at it before you post it. If it is sideways delete it go into your image file on your computer and edit the photo size and try uploading it again.

Your point is well taken. But my point was that it's never been an issue before. Now it's happening a lot. Not just my picture, but several other threads have had the same issue. Something must have changed here.

Just guessing but I bet there were several things that Chris could have tweaked (like automatic picture sizing) to make posting easier that got set back to default when the update was done just like the threaded view was set back to modern web site default settings.

It usually has to do with EXIF orientation metadata of the photo itself, not the forum- or the way the exif orientation data is interpreted by the forum software. I have never had a problem here, my photos always appear correct.

Some folks turn their phones sideways and take photos in landscape (wide) mode. If you do that, make sure the phone has the shutter button on the right side of the phone screen. One of my friends was taking photos with the button on the left side and his photos were always posting weird. Dunno if that's what's happening here, but it has happened.

The software is not making any changes to the orientation of the source images. I downloaded the examples from the reply above, corrected their orientation (also reduced their size) and posted here. As you can se it is something that needs to be corrected before posting. It seems to me that these images may have been scanned into the computer first not posted directly

Thanks for the replies. I just find it interesting that this phenomenon only started showing up recently. That's the only reason I brought it up. I've been on here quite a few years and never noticed it before. Even some of the posters of those photos have commented on it.
But it is what it is.
