Picking corn - I'm late

But I gotter done. The deer used this field as a feeding and play ground, only corn field around, and next to a river bottom that stretches for miles. Combine (1680) did an excellent job of picking the stalks up but the New Idea picker had a tougher time. Today, in the picked field, there were four bucks trying to get the attention of a doe.

Had à 2 row new idea mounted picker on a 800, caseamatitic was nice hooking up to wagons remember.when we started side dressing corn and yeilds went to 100.bpa

In 1984 we had a huge test plot with 64 varieties from 16 different companies. Alfalfa plowed down and starter only. The winner was 114 bpa and people were amazed. Now that would be a disaster. Some of the varieties were broken down and almost flat on the ground.

Best i can remember ear corn was 75 cents a bushel in late 60’s

This was a heirloom corn called Bloody Butcher which we only use for cows, chickens, and grind some for ourselves to make corn bread and coat fish. Pretty good as sweet corn too. Of course wife uses for decorating.

Never heard of that variety before. Heirloom is always better! You said this is sweet? I might want to try to find some seed. Nick

We had a 700 Case occasionally pulled the 2 row New Idea but usually pulled picker with the JD 60 and hauled with the Case as it had a faster road gear.

Funk's 4444 was a good number around here until the late 70's then stalks went to the bugs.
