Pickup tool box locks

My oldest son got a DElta tool box gave to him,the locks are bad and he didnt get a key.We called Delta and they dont seem to have a clue or really even give a crap.Anybody got any ideas?

A good locksmith can make a key from the numbers on the lock if it is similiar to the ones on file cabinets.

The local Orscheln sells a complete lock, key and mounting clip around here. They deal in those boxes, a bit pricey but available. Might check with your area distributors.

I had a similar problem. The lock mechanism comes out after you remove a C-clip. Any competant locksmith can make a new set of keys and/or fix/replace the cylinder for not alot of money. You just need to remove the lock mechanism and take it to him.

Went through that BS with Delta last year hunting for a door spring. They are a stupid company to deal with their dealers know less than they do so buy another brand next time. Most farm supply stores here that sell those boxes have the locks in stock but none of them had that spring I needed. Their home site and where to buy link for finding dealers.

You can also get the lock assemblies for deltas at NAPA. Just have them look in the Balkamp catalog

I bought a pair of Delta pickup side boxes several years ago that didn't have the keys. Went to the local farm store and that sells Deltas and bought the lock sets for about 20 bucks.

Hi BD,

I used to have to change that kind of lock all the time on mailboxes at an apartment complex I worked at. They're super easy to install and they cost next to nothing. Easy to drill out, too. Get those locks off and take them to a real locksmith. The locksmith can match them up with good quality locks. You think they're brand specific until you start working with them, then you find out that they're more like a generic product.
