The Broad Beans have matured and the possums have left me enough to make Broad Bean ( Fava Beans ) and Ricotta pies . A favourite of mine as a boy , not quite as good as Mum's but near enough .

Those look good, Charles. Here in northeast Texas where I grew up, we've grown just about every kind of bean and pea common to this area: pinto beans(my favorite),
black beans, Limas(baby or Navy beans and giant Limas or butter beans) green beans(string beans and pole beans), and blackeye peas, cream peas, crowders, polecat peas,
and English peas. I have never heard of Broad beans but they sure sound good. I am a fan of pies, too.

An odd bean Butch , with a thick pod that has a soft silky inner lining , only the seed is really edible . The filling is made with lots of eggs and Ricotta cheese mixed with the beans . Almost quiche like in a way .

Very funny Jim :) they are one of the few beans that really don't create huge amounts of gas . The pastry rose by itself , no inflation necessary .
They seem to be called various names in the US , Fava, Faba , and Horse beans . The botanic names is Vicia Fava very commonly used in Mediterranean areas.
