Piloting the Super 55

Hi! I bought the Oliver to be my dedicated Rotary Cutter Tractor.
Changing implements is the worst 45 mins of my life ... and the other tractor is a 4wd with a F/E Loader.
That is a Mitsubishi MT2001FD. She is 20HP and seems to spin the cutter so much better than the Oliver which is 32 (?)hp.
The tranny confuses me ... I either find two gears that are far too fast, or I putter along. I can hear the cutter bog the engine in the thicker weeds.
Obviously, I am not understanding something. The throttle is a pair of vice grips LOL
How much mowing can I do on two gallons of gas ... The tank is 15g, but I think there is a leak somewhere, so I do not keep it full

Where do you want us to start? A pair of vice grips? Sounds like you're only finding three speeds forward and one reverse? They have six forward and two reverse if you didn't know. Does the tachometer work? 2 gallons working it? Less than an hour.

She is an OK Farm Tractor ... Vice grips should not be a surprise!! LOL If there is a replacement part, I am open!!!
I can find reverse, two slower speeds and two OMG! speeds. I try to follow the graphic on the dash to find the speed I want ... and have not felt successful. I can drive a three on the tree and a 5-speed. This is puzzling.
I come in at about 45 mins so I can get a drink ... last thing I want to do is have to walk in
Tach does work!!

There are two neutrals. The top one has 1-2-5 and R1. The lower one has 3-4-6 and R2. Let the shift center itself then pull straight back toward the back of the tractor or push straight forward to get in the top gears.

For that throttle lever, Kent Gordon was the go to guy for used parts for those. He recently retired and sold everything to All States Ag Parts, the folks who own this site, so call them in the morning and I'm sure they'll have one. It reves up so the needle of the tach tops out at the line for the PTO speed?

Think of the transmission as two H patterns, one on top of the other.

"Tach tops out" ... I'll have to look at that on Thursday!! Dr appt and errands tomorrow. I was schooled on manual vehicles to ignore the tack altogether and listen to the engine for the shift, so I have rarely glanced at Ollie's

I do know she is cold blooded, takes a bit before she will take an increase in the throttle.

Sounds is your shifting by listing to the engine, you must be trying to shift thru the gears. This is a tractor, not a truck. It's not to be shifted on the go. Pick a gear & go. HTH, Kent

Oh, no!! Pick a gear on the tractors!! Never shift. that was lesson one on the Mitsubishi.
I only mention listening to the engine as to why I never look at the tachometer. Never had to.

Not really up or down, forward and backward with the gear shifter.
