Piston Clearance

I just picked up a ford 2N with a siezed motor. Do I replace the sleeves and if so would I use standard.040 sleeves and get the whole sleeve, pistons and rings kit?

We won't know until you get it apart. The sleeves may
or may not be good, but they may not be the stock size.

Sometimes you can soak the cylinders in ATF or MMO and get
them to free up and run again. Depends on how bad they are.
My Jubilee was seized for years. I got it to free up and it has
ran fine for the last eight years or so with out smoking.

Slim,Is it the pistons that are sized,or it could be the crankshaft that is sized.Remove the head for a look see and clean up,if it is the pistons do as Royse said and soak them with ATF or Marvel for several days and see if it will free up.Tapping them with a block of wood and a hammer will help them free up.You will need to get them free in order to tear it down for repair and check sleeve sizes before ordering any parts.

"will try tapping the cylinder that I was told is seized. Thanks"

I would soak them all before I tried tapping any of them.
Unless you've done some major disassembly including removing
the crankshaft, one can't move unless they all do.

How would someone know exactly which cylinder is seized?
Is there more to the story that we don't know?

Mine was seized for a very long time. The key to breaking them free is patience. I pulled the head and put in ATF and let it soak. I was in no hurry. I tapped on a 4x4 once a day for about 30 days and added ATF if needed. After 30 days I removed the starter and, with a large screwdriver, pried on the ring gear until it popped loose. I then put each cylinder at BDC one at a time and honed the cylinder, blew out the debris, coated the cylinders with heavy oil and buttoned it up. When I started it up some time later it popped right off and burned off the excess oil. It doesn't smoke much at all. Good luck.

Your N will probably be worth about $200.00 more with a rebuilt motor than with a running again motor.
