Piston pin bushings

I received new piston pin bushings with my rebuild kit. Upon disassembly of the pistons, it "appears" that there are no bushings in the rods. What gives? Do some rods have them and some don't? The new pins fit the rods but I don't want to reassemble incorrectly cuz, well, that would be bad. I know that by the time these tractors have traveled through time they don't always resemble their original make-up, and I know for a fact this is not the first rebuild for this tractor.

Piston pin bushings are not a job for the do-it-yourselfer, anyway, (unless you have a "rod machine" to hone them while keeping the bushing bore parallel to the "big end" bore) so you'll have to drag them into an automotive machine shop.

HOPEFULLY there's one nearby with a good 'ol boy who's been there a while and is familiar with the older stuff and can tell you what's going on.

Thanks Bob, Once I cleaned the rods and removed the rust and gunk I was able to see the dissimilar metals. I do indeed have access to a machinest who can remove the bushings and press the new ones in. In case anyone reads this why would an engine that is serial numbered for an 8N have 9N piston rods in it? I know parts are interchangeable to a degree but why the rods?

Same part for 9N and 8N.

The bushings, after pressing in, have to be square honed to fit.

Been bit by a worn pin bushing,,, they seam to be OK while cleaning every thing up but once all the tarnish is removed by the clean up process and not caught it will have a noise that means a redo,,, I always install new'ns and have the rods reworked ,,, My self I don't go their with out the proper equipment,,, I do not wanna get bit again,,, I gladly pay to have them reworked to spec....

WARNING all I know I read on the Internet,,, do it enuff and you can become a guru also,,, not responsible for damages,,, I read it and just pass it along,,, proceed with caution
