Engine is now completely apart and am inspecting/checking the parts to see what needs work or replacement-pistons look pretty decent, but noticed the top ring of each has slightly more clearance in the groove than the lower 3,don't know if they are made that way for heat expansion reasons ETC.Anyone know what the top ring groove thickness or clearance is supposed to be on a 1500?

Don't know about a 1500 but can tell you what a ym155 with a 2tr13a is suppose to have. Top groove clearance .0019 - .0033. Grooves 2 through 4 .0008 - .0022.

Replacement limit. top groove .0078, 2nd and 3rd groove .0079, 4th groove .0059.

Don't know those numbers would be correct for your 1500 or not but maybe they will shed a little light for you.

Thanks-that will give me an idea of the general range to look for.Looks like new pistors aren't very expensive if mine are beyond wear limits.
