pistons, rings and sleeves

8n 12 volt side mount. wanted to put new rings sleeves and pistons in got her tore down and the number 4 piston looked like i poured a Tbs.of oil on it, it was so wet thot i would find cracked rings, but did not. showing a little wear on the sides of the pistons but rings dont look bad.it smoked alot out the exhaust and and was bloing smoke out the oil fill tube. harder it pulled the more it smoked. how could the oil got on top of the piston like that and would the blowback be caused by the exhauste vale not seating tight

these are not really bad about sucking oil through the valve stems,(of course check it while you got it pulled down) chances are rings and sleeves are just worn out. They always seems to be worse on 3 and 4 for some reason.I personally think it because they run hotter on those cyls, but I dont know how you could check it.Oil rings are what causes one to pump oil most of the time, and they are bad to stick in one that has sat for a long time.

smoke and blowby.. sure sounds like rings to me.. that or sleaves and rings..

might as well do bearings this far in too.. even if you go back with what it had..

Danny,Check the ring end gaps with the rings 1/2 way down the cylinder bore.Next check the piston ring lands for wear(will cause excessive oil consumption and low compression, and blow by.Check the piston to cylinder wall clearance. If piston to cylinder wall clearance is excessive replace sleeves and pistons with a sleeves kit.Get you a I-T F04 manual if you don't have one and read it over.
